Dear Church Family,

As you've probably heard by now, Bruce Young was diagnosed with ALS (Lou
Gehring's disease) a little over a year ago. A few of his long-time friends
and colleagues from MTW have organized a fundraiser to help them cover the
costs of the major equipment they'll need as the disease progresses.

While SEPC will be making a contribution (via our Deacon's Fund), we
realize that some of you may wish to give individually. I'm going to attach
the email below that has instructions for how you can make a donation.
Please read it carefully and follow the instructions provided.

Above all, please keep Bruce and Susan in your prayers as they walk this
difficult path.

Dear Friends and Supporters of Bruce and Susan Young, February 9, 2021

We have known Bruce and Susan for about 30 years now and worked very
closely with them for the past 16 years while we were all a part of the
Member Care and Development Team (formerly known as the Spiritual Life
Department) at Mission to the World.  We have become very close friends and
brothers and sisters in Christ throughout these years.  We would consider
them our closest friends within MTW.

You may know that a little over a year ago, Bruce was diagnosed with ALS
(Lou Gehrig’s Disease).  Thankfully, they were able to retire in May 2020
and had built a home in the Chattanooga area.  They have made some needed
adjustments to their home (most notably a chair lift that goes up to the
second floor where their bedroom is) to accommodate the progression of the
illness, but now they need our help.

As the disease progresses, Bruce will need an electric wheelchair, a van
equipped with a wheelchair lift, a ramp leading out of the house, and some
other medical aids that will be helpful around the house.  They will get
partial coverage from Medicare for the electric wheelchair, but the van and
other things will be a major expense for them.  Bruce and Susan have been
counseled that it is better to have these things on hand and at the ready
before Bruce will have to make use of them.  Better to be proactive and
ready than reactive in an emergency.  While we will be looking for used
vans and Medicare will help with the wheelchair, we anticipate needs of
$35,000 – $40,000 dollars to get a reliable van and equipment.

Along with some other dear friends of theirs on Lookout Mountain, we are
helping to organize the raising of funds to cover the major expense of
these items not covered by Medicare. Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church
in Lookout Mtn, GA has agreed to receive financial tax-deductible gifts to
assist in the eventual need.

If you would like to and are able, please consider a tax-deductible gift
that can be sent in one of two ways:

3)There should be* NO reference to the Youngs to comply with IRS rules.*

is credited to their fund and you are properly receipted.

on the form.

5) Fill in email address and then continue to next page to fill out the
credit card and billing/receipt details.

6) Finish form by clicking on “Give”.
